Elena Nestorova, Words, Light and Sound at AvantGarden

Words from Gabriel García Márquez’s One Hundred Years of Solitude, Identity as circle of light calling through tiny electric sounds a heartbeat, heard on embrace. This performance was beautiful, and the huge white balloon floating away beyond any vision as the fiber optic light in it still shown bright. I’m still contemplating it’s possible destination.

The Great God Pan Is Dead: What I did at the Lone Star Explosion Biennale: Day 2

The Great God Pan Is Dead: What I did at the Lone Star Explosion Biennale: Day 2. by Dean Liscum

I’m going to categorize Day 2’s theme as dicks and death. This day’s performances took place at Avant Garden. It had rained like it was the second great flood. I was late (I can’t stand the rain…or blame it, but I will) and stomped through the rain to an almost empty Avant Garden with a wall size projection of chocolate-smothered penises and breasts and a group of people singing “we shall over come.” I stopped in the middle of the bar and waited for Woody Allen dressed as Noah to step out of the bathroom with two sheep in his and hers leather corsets. It didn’t happen.

Each venue hosted four hours of continuous performance art by local and international artists.

photos 1-6 were taken the second night at Avant Garden. In a few words: everyone had plastic bags on their heads and there were cans of hair spray and lighters making fire shooters everywhere

The second piece shown at Avant Garden was performed by an artist from Finland. Luckily Makenzie and I had front row seats.

These last few photos were taken at notsouH’s during the third night. Look closely and you can see me in the background.

I was honored to be a part of this event, although not too experienced as a performance artist (i did a few pieces in…
